Cockroach Control

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) reports that one-in-five children in the United States have severe sensitivities to cockroach allergens, which increase the severity of asthma symptoms. These allergens are most commonly introduced in homes through cockroach saliva, droppings and the decomposing bodies of these pests.

Cockroach control and management is extremely important for health and safety reasons. The best treatment is done by a trained pest control professional.

If you're concerned that you have cockroaches in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

House Mice

The house mouse is the most common rodent pest in most parts of the world. It can breed rapidly and adapt quickly to changing conditions.

House mice can breed throughout the year and can share nests. These little creatures live in structures, but they can live outdoors.

Micro droplets of mouse urine can cause allergies in children. Mice can also bring fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home.

If you're concerned that you have mice in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

The Numero Uno Nuisance Pest

Did you know that ants are the #1 nuisance pest in the United States?

Ant control is now more important than ever. There are more than 700 ant species found in the U.S., although only about 25 species commonly infest homes.

Ants are social insects that typically live in underground colonies, made up of workers and a queen. Ants will eat practically any kind of food, but are especially attracted to sweets.

These pesky little creatures are easily identifiable due to their three distinct body region: head, thorax and abdomen, as well as antennae.

If you're concerned that you have an ant infestation in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

Keeping Pests Out Of Your Holiday Goodies

Here are a few tips  from the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) to help prevent unwanted "guests" from getting into your holiday goodies.
  • Immediately wipe up any crumbs or spills from countertops, tables, floors and shelves.
  • Store food in airtight containers and dispose of garbage regularly in sealed receptacles.
  • Only purchase food in sealed packages that show no sign of damage.
  • Add a bay leaf to canisters and packages of dry goods like flour, rice and other grains- their pungent scent repels many pantry pests.
  • Install door sweeps on exterior doors and repair damaged screens.
  • Check expiration dates on baking ingredients before use.
  • Eliminate all moisture sites, including leaking pipes and clogged drains.
If you suspect a pest infestation in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

Pest Prevention For Businesses

Preventing pests and rodents from taking up residence in your place of business is critical. Here are just a few ways that your business can avoid pest infestations and the potential health and property threats that pests and rodents can pose.
  • "Pest-proof" your business by being vigilant of building maintenance needs
  • Dispose of garbage regularly and store in sealed containers.
  • Seal cracks and holes on the outside of your business, including entry points for utilities and pipes.
  • Don't overlook proper drainage at the foundation; install gutters or diverts, which will channel water away from the building.
  • Be sure your employees keep food sealed and stored properly.
  • Clean high-volume areas daily, such as public eating areas and kitchenettes, where crumbs and trash are more likely to build up.
Call Dave at 1-800-400-6009 and have  him inspect for pests and rodents, identify the problem ,and control the pest(s) using an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach.

If you're concerned that you have insects or rodents in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

Ladybug Control and Prevention

The most effective way to get rid of ladybugs or prevent them from entering homes and buildings is to seal cracks around windows, doors, siding, and utility pipes, behind chimneys, and underneath the wood fascia and other openings. Use a good quality silicone or silicone-latex caulk. Damaged screens on doors and windows should be repaired or replaced.

If ladybugs have already entered a home or building, a vacuum cleaner can aid in their removal.

However, if an infestation has developed inside your home or business,  call Dave at 1-800-400-6009 to evaluate and assess the problem.

Ladybug Facts

  • Ladybugs are known to secrete an oily yellow liquid when disturbed, and release an odor just before they die, so squishing them is not suggested.
  • The Mall of America in Minnesota, for instance, releases thousands of ladybugs into its indoor park as a natural means of pest control for its gardens.
  • A common myth is that the number of spots on its back indicates its age.
  • Most ladybug species do not pose a health threat to humans. However, the multi-colored Asian lady beetle is known to aggravate asthma and cause allergic reactions in some people, a strong reason for ladybug pest control.

The Hobo Spider

The hobo spider is found throughout the Pacific Northwest and can be identified by its distinct pattern of yellow markings on its abdomen. These spiders build their webs in holes, cracks and recesses, and like most spiders, can be found in hiding places such as window wells and stacks of firewood, storage items, behind furniture and in closets.

As hobo spiders are much more likely to attack if provoked or threatened, people who live in areas where this spider is found should be aware of their habits to prevent and detect infestations before they become a problem. Unlike the other spiders profiled here, the bite of a hobo spider may go unnoticed at first, but then a moderate to severe, slow-healing wound will develop.

If you're concerned that you have hobo spiders in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.

Facts About Mites

Mites once away from the human body, mites do not survive more than 48-72 hours. When living on a person, an adult female mite can live up to a month.

Scabies is an infestation of the skin with the microscopic mite. The infestation spreads rapidly under crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people, such as in hospitals, institutions, child-care facilities, and nursing homes.

If you're concerned that you have mites in your home or place of business, give Dave a call at 1-800-400-6009.
